Fireworks

Wed Jul 5, 2006, 6:30 AM
Ok, so I tried to photograph fireworks for the first time. I did my research, read dozens of articles that all said it was so very easy. I thought, "Wow, you know, I can do this" So I loaded up my camera and the kids and headed off to the park for some spectacular action. To my displeasure it wasnt as easy as I thought it would be. So I thought I would share some of the things I learned.

Number one, Closer is not better (in my case anyhow) It was very difficult for me to frame the fireworks well becasue they were not all in the same place. I think with some distance it could be easier. A wide angle lens might help also.

Two, try to use something in the foreground. It will make the shot so much more interesting. Yeah, I knew that before I left but I didnt listen.

Three, Make a decision before you leave... Family night out or spetacular picture taking night. They won't mix very well especially with younger kids. Between the, I'm thirsty's and the I have to go potty's and the bumping of the tri-pod by an excited 9 year old during the grand finally it will be hard to get those aw-inspireing shots.

I am glad I chose to make this one a family night out, That Aw-inspiring shot will come, a moment with the kids is priceless.

Now lets go get a jelly filled douhnut and enjoy what life can do for us when we decide to open up the door.
